Cogeninfra and the agreement with Ambiente Valtellina ETS

Cogeninfra renews its commitment to the agricultural pruning collection service

February-March 2024

Cogeninfra and the municipalities of Villa di Tirano, Bianzone and Chiuro have renewed their commitment to the agricultural pruning collection service for 2024, in agreement with Ambiente Valtellina ETS.

The initiative offers farmers the opportunity to deliver branches free of charge to specific collection points, where they are then transported to the district heating plant in Tirano and used as biomass for energy production, thus contributing to a reduction in pollutant emissions and efficient management of agricultural by-products.

The plant will thus contribute significantly to reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, improving air quality. In previous years, the service has enabled the collection of an average of 5,000 quintals of prunings per year, avoiding the emission of approximately 230 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually and recording a significant reduction in fine and ultra-fine particulate matter in the months from January to March.
