Borgaro Torinese

The Borgaro district heating plant was established in 2008. The district heating network in Borgaro Torinese, is powered by a hybrid biomass/natural gas power plant and has been supplying heat since 2008, has a total connected capacity of 21.6 MW to date with a pipeline network extending 8.3 km. For thermal power generation, the following are in operation : 1 biomass boiler with 3 MW thermal output, 2 natural gas heat generators with 5.99 MW firebox output each, 1 Jenbacher endothermic engine with 3048 kW electrical and 3000 kW thermal output and a 400 Kw thermal heat pump, 1 x 400 cubic metres thermal storage, 1 x 750 cubic metres thermal storage, for a total of about 18 MW installed thermal output and 3 MW electrical output. Several revamps were carried out at the district heating plant during 2022, and with these improvements, the total thermal efficiency of the system was achieved at 95%. In addition, a new thermal storage tank with the content of 750 cubic metres of water was inserted to store the heat produced by the plant and make it available when needed, which also allows for cost-effective scheduling of motor operation based on electricity tariffs. Finally, the thermal output is also increased with the addition of 1 heat pump.
