STEM Project:

Talents in training for energy efficiency

A bridge between university and the workplace to train the energy professionals of tomorrow.

What is Cogeninfra’s STEM Project

The STEM Project is a structured entry and development program for graduates and soon-to-be graduates in technical and scientific disciplines, designed to build both technical and cross-functional skills through real projects, rotations across business functions, and continuous tutoring.

Admission takes place through a 12-month fixed-term contract, renewable once (for a total of 24 months), during which participants take part in 6–9 month projects and present their results to senior management.

The program may be extended up to 36 months only if the participant demonstrates the skills required for a potential transition to a permanent position.

The goal of the program is to train professionals capable of contributing to Cogeninfra’s technological leadership and, where applicable, to qualify for defined roles with increasing responsibilities.

Who it is aimed at

  • Graduates and soon-to-be graduates in STEM disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering e Mathematics.
  • Young individuals with motivation, teamwork skills, and the desire to contribute to the energy transition and innovation in the sector.

Why participate

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Take part directly in real projects on energy efficiency, decarbonization, district heating, photovoltaics, and energy communities.
  • Rotate across different business areas, gaining a broad range of multidisciplinary experience.
  • Receive continuous support from company tutors, with opportunities for merit-based rewards.
  • Grow professionally and join the company with a permanent contract at the end of the program.
  • Take part in the program’s final “graduationceremony, marking the official start of your new role.

How the STEM Project works

  1. Selection: application submission, introductory interview, pre-selection, and final choice.
  2. Initial contract: 12-month fixed-term contract, renewable once (for a total of 24 months).
  3. Rotation Program: a sequence of real projects lasting 6–9 months each, with at least 4 rotations during the entire program (up to 6 if projects conclude in 6 months), including a final presentation of results and transition to the next project with a different tutor.
  4. Continuous evaluation: the performance of both the participant and the tutor is assessed by management.
  5. Training: modules on safety, regulations, project management, finance, marketing, IT, energy efficiency techniques, and plant management.
  6. Final placement: transition to a permanent position in a company area consistent with the results achieved.

Main activities

During the STEM program, participants will be involved in a broad range of training and operational experiences, gaining a comprehensive understanding of Cogeninfra’s activities and the energy sector.

The main activities include:

  • Participation in real projects: each participant will join teams working on concrete projects related to energy transition, efficiency, and sustainability. Projects include industrial process decarbonization, expansion and management of district heating networks, optimization of biomass plants, development of photovoltaic solutions with storage systems, and research on Renewable Energy Communities.
  • Rotations in different company areas: the program includes several experiences, each lasting 6–9 months, allowing participants to work in various departments and face technical, economic, and managerial challenges. This structure fosters cross-functional skills and helps participants identify their professional vocation.

  • Structured training: alongside on-the-job learning, participants will attend training modules on key topics such as workplace safety, energy regulations, project management, corporate finance, marketing, and digital tools for energy data analysis and monitoring.

  • Continuous mentorship: each participant will be supported by experienced company tutors, who will guide them through project development, providing technical, methodological, and managerial support. An evaluation and reward system recognizes results achieved within the defined timelines.

  • Presentation of results: at the end of each project, participants will present their results to senior management, learning to effectively communicate data, analyses, and developed solutions.

  • Professional placement: upon successful completion of the program, participants will be permanently integrated into the company’s workforce, in a clearly defined role with growing responsibilities, culminating in a program “graduation” ceremony.

What they say about us

Donato De Natale

Engineering Specialist

“At Cogeninfra, I have the opportunity to work on a project covering several areas of the photovoltaic sector, from customer relations to system design. This experience is extremely valuable and educational, as it allows me to combine theoretical knowledge with the technical aspects of the professional world. I highly recommend it, as it provides constant stimulation and contributes to professional growth.”

Umberto Tesio

Engineering Specialist

“I’m collaborating on the district heating network extension project in Fidenza. At Cogeninfra, I’ve found a stimulating environment that values cross-functional work and feedback. I believe this initiative represents an important opportunity for me to grow, both professionally and personally.”

Beniamino

Engineering Specialist

“Four months after the start of the STEM Project, the experience is proving to be very stimulating: a welcoming and collaborative work environment. From the very beginning, it required skills I didn’t yet have, pushing me to learn every day — also thanks to the support of my mentor. It has been very rewarding to reach my first goals and to be involved in new projects. I believe the most interesting part of the STEM Project is the rotation: changing types of projects and working with new mentors and colleagues are things that keep curiosity high, break the routine, and drive personal growth. On the other hand, though, the idea of leaving the Latina office already makes me a bit sad.”

Marco Canino

Engineering Specialist

“Taking part in the STEM Project is proving to be an important training opportunity. It allows me to gain hands-on professional experience, participate in the daily activities of a leading company in the energy sector, and directly contribute to innovative development projects aligned with my academic background.”

Elisa Bonalda

Engineering Specialist

“The STEM Project is a structured training path that, thanks to the guidance of experienced professionals, is allowing me to grow in the fields of district heating and energy efficiency. The various rotations offer the opportunity not only to gain an in-depth understanding of the company but also to explore the entire value chain and the operational processes that define its activities.”

Mattia Erroi

Engineering Specialist

“Il Progetto STEM rappresenta un percorso formativo strutturato che, grazie all’affiancamento di professionisti del settore, mi sta permettendo di crescere professionalmente nei campi del teleriscaldamento e dell’efficienza energetica. Le diverse rotazioni offrono l’opportunità non solo di conoscere a fondo l’azienda, ma anche di approfondire la catena del valore e i processi operativi che ne caratterizzano l’attività.”
